I am an integrative counsellor who works with individual adult clients on a short and long term basis. I have experience of working with diverse clients on a wide range of issues but with a particular focus on grief and loss.

Integrative counselling with Cate

We all have periods in our life where we struggle to understand or find meaning in what is happening to us. Change, even if positive or longed for, can leave us feeling disoriented and unsure. When this change involves a loss – the death of a loved one, the loss of a relationship, loss of identity or of an imagined future due to illness or change in circumstance, we can feel alone and overwhelmed. Our familiar coping mechanisms no longer seem to work and we can find it difficult to speak to the people around us for fear of upsetting them or being misunderstood.

I believe that the collaborative relationship between counsellor and client is fundamental to the counselling process and my aim is to walk alongside you in this unfamiliar landscape. I understand that coming to counselling can be daunting and I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space in which we can work together to make sense of these changes. A space for you to talk about your grief, loss and uncertainty, to voice your fears about the future, and to identify and develop the resources that will help you move forward when you are ready.

As an integrative practitioner I draw upon a number of theoretical and relational approaches including attachment theory, humanistic, gestalt and existential. This enables me to work creatively and flexibly, tailoring my approach to the particular needs of each individual.

Qualifications and experience

I have an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling (BACP accredited) from the Iron Mill College in Exeter. I am a registered member of the BACP and adhere to their code of ethics. I regularly attend training courses and workshops to continue my professional development, recent courses have included Compassion Focused Therapy, Infant Loss, and Working With Suicide and Self Harm.

Alongside my private practice I work with the City and East London Bereavement Service where I see clients experiencing traumatic loss, including death of a child, multiple bereavements, and sudden or unexpected loss through illness or suicide.
