I am an Islington based counsellor/psychotherapist and have experience in working in Wandsworth, and Camden & Islington NHS Trusts. As a registered member of the BACP, I provide counselling in a safe, warm, and empathic space to support your mental health needs in confidence.
I enjoy working with a wide range of people and like helping those with a wide variety of mental health issues where my open approach allows you the courage to take the first step in counselling and seeking help. I mainly work with adults either as an individual or in couples and I welcome people from different backgrounds, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientation and identities, faiths, and those who are neuro diverse.
Integrative counselling with Sandy
I help in most areas that affect people’s lives, particularly around stress, loss, low self-esteem, trauma, relationships, depression and anxiety, but if there are other issues that affect you, I am here to listen and offer support. We can do this on a short-term basis, that is solution focused, or for the medium and long term where more time is needed.
All sessions are confidential where you can feel safe to share your thoughts and feelings without judgement. My method of working is integrative, which draws from the psychodynamic and person-centred models of therapy with some elements of CBT. I focus on working collaboratively to empower the individual to make the changes needed and to improve relationships with others. I am also a yoga teacher and sometimes use yoga techniques in the therapy room as part of the therapeutic process to allow the body to recalibrate following trauma, anxiety or depression and to align and aid overall well-being.
For relationships and couples counselling, I focus on the dynamics of the individuals and how they interact and work to balance the needs of each to ensure their voices are heard and to improve communication and reconcile differences.
Specifically, for work related stress, I also offer career therapy, which combines counselling and career mentoring using work coaching tools to improve mental health resilience and confidence in the workplace to aid a better work/life balance at all stages of careers. These sessions can also be used to focus on a particular project, a creative block or other work issues to help manage and reduce stress and adapt work behaviours while aiding compassion for the self in the workplace.
The purpose of my work is to support and help those in times of need by offering a place to be heard to overcome difficulties and move forward and build confidence to be the best they can be.
