I am an experienced and professionally qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist offering a safe and non-judgemental place to explore your thoughts and feelings. I have worked in a variety of settings and people have sought help from me with a wide range of issues.
Whether you are considering long-term therapy or just want a few sessions to think about a specific issue, therapy can help you to understand what you are going through and support you in making difficult decisions. I welcome anyone struggling with a difficult emotional situation who thinks that therapy might be helpful.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy with Helen
As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I consider that problems in the present have often originated in past experiences. Understanding these is an important step towards breaking unhelpful patterns of thinking and achieving changes in perception and relationships.
The sessions are focused on what you want to bring, whilst seeking different ways of thinking about what those concerns could mean. Therapy is a very individual undertaking, and it is essential that you feel safe with your therapist. That is why I suggest that we meet initially for us to discover whether we can work together and if you require short term or open-ended therapy. If we agree to work together, we will meet regularly at the same time each week for 50 minutes each time. This session will be reserved for you until your therapy ends.
As therapy progresses and you begin to recognise the underlying issues, you may notice positive changes in your life and relationships. Sometimes therapy also involves the acknowledgement of painful feelings that may have been avoided for a long time. This is normal, and an important part of the work and you will be given the time and space to work through these feelings. My aim is to help people gain a greater understanding of why they feel the way they do, and consequently manage their lives differently.
