    Jamie Kelly

I am an HCPC registered Dramatherapist (Arts Psychotherapist).

With over 10 years of clinical experience in the field of mental health, addictions and trauma, I have worked in education, healthcare, social care and criminal justice systems.

I have worked with both men and women who have experienced debilitating mental health issues and those with longstanding histories of addiction, trauma and abuse.

I work 1-to-1 with adults and specialise in treating trauma related to:

    – a breach of trust in relationships (experienced in childhood & adulthood)
    – loss and bereavement
    – change and transitions

I have my own Professional Indemnity Insurance and hold a cleared Enhanced DBS certificate.

Dramatherapy/Creative and Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy with Jamie

I am passionate about recovery and am guided by the belief that we all have within ourselves the ability to change, grow and flourish to our full potential when in a safe, non-judgemental and creative environment.

I offer a creative and holistic approach to counselling and psychotherapy for adults affected by trauma. The way I work is informed by my knowledge and clinical experience in relational trauma, childhood trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD).

As a dramatherapist, I help people work through trauma and its impact on the:
    – mind
    – body
    – how we connect and make relationships with people

Dramatherapy is an expressive form of psychodynamic psychotherapy commonly used to treat anxiety and depression, and to help build confidence and self-esteem.

Talking is a key component in dramatherapy which is used alongside action-based methods that connect the mind and body (e.g. role play, embodiment, movement, art and story-making).

You do not need to have an arts or acting background to engage in dramatherapy. It is about using all communication channels when words alone may not be enough. It is also about empowering you to express your emotions safely in a non-judgemental space.

My belief is that working creatively can help adults connect with all aspects of themselves and heal the child from within. In the creative process, unspoken issues can be voiced safely, and their resolutions can be found all within the art form.

Working therapeutically by using a creative medium can provide another layer of safety, protection and distancing when it may feel too raw to speak directly about issues and emotions that cause you the most pain and hurt. Working experientially in this way can be very powerful and cathartic.
