Jen Tomkinson

    Jen Tomkinson

I am a qualified person-centred therapist offering individual therapy to adults on a short and long term basis to help with a range of issues.  I have nearly a decade of experience providing counselling in different settings. I have worked in further education, young adult wellbeing services, LGBTQ charities and in mental health charities.  As well as my private practice I also run therapy groups and workshops for clients with serious mental health conditions at a homeless charity in the borough of Westminster.

    Person-centred therapy with Jen

You may come into therapy not knowing what to expect or what you need. I can facilitate the process of you understanding yourself better and finding direction. Often we are more forgiving of others than we are of ourselves, which gets in the way of us reaching our potential. You may find anxiety, depression or other negative feelings are holding you back in your life and your relationships. Perhaps you are ready to work towards changing that.

The relationship between counsellor and client is fundamental to therapy. I offer an accepting, understanding and genuine relationship, and a space that is yours. I provide a rare experience of being truly listened to without judgement. In this supportive relationship you can begin to develop a better, kinder relationship to yourself and others.

    Qualifications and experience

I completed my postgraduate diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy at York St John University, a course that is accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  The BACP is the main professional body for psychotherapy, counselling and talking therapies in the UK.

Following qualification I have completed various training courses to develop my knowledge further on subjects including trauma, domestic abuse, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), hoarding, supporting people who hear voices, bereavement and motivational interviewing.

I offer an initial no-obligation assessment to discuss how we might work together.

    Assessment (50 minutes): £60

Ongoing therapy sessions (50 minutes): £60

I also offer a limited number of sessions at a reduced rate of £40 for those on a low income.

    Issues I help with

I have a particular interest and experience in working with LGBTQ+ clients and young people (over 18), and those experiencing mental health difficulties.  I have experience working with a variety of issues including:
