My name is Jo Gaskell. I am a BACP accredited (2003) and UKCP registered (2004) integrative psychotherapist. I abide by the BACP and UKCP code of ethics. I have over 17 years experience of working with adults, young people and children. I see people individually, either short-term for between six and 12 sessions, or long-term, for more in-depth work, which may be for a number of months or years.
I provide a safe and confidential space in which people of all ages can express their feelings, and talk about any difficulties that they are experiencing. Rather than giving advice or providing answers, my skill is to help and support people in a non-judgmental way, to find their own answers and deepen their self-awareness. My style of work is grounded in my understanding of the uniqueness of each person who comes to see me, and for us to work together to try and make sense of their thoughts, feelings and sense of self. This can involve exploring the meaning and importance of their personal experiences, relationships and particular circumstances. When I am working with children and young people, I have toys and art materials available to them, as this can help them to show how they are feeling.
Qualifications and experience
I trained at The Minster Centre where I was awarded a Diploma and MA in Integrative Psychotherapy in 2000. Between 2004 and 2006 I attended a conversion course for Integrative Child Psychotherapy at The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education. As well as running my private practice, I also work as a psychotherapist and counsellor in primary schools.
My fees are £60 per session, including for the initial meeting. I offer a number of reduced cost places, depending on availability and a person’s circumstances.
