Cognitive behavioural and compassion-focused therapy with Sophie
I understand that we can all struggle with difficulties in our lives and that it takes courage to seek help. I am a warm, empathetic professional who genuinely cares that you feel valued and not judged. Through my collaborative and compassionate approach, I will encourage you to be kind to yourself and validate your strengths, helping you identify what is making you feel stuck with your problems and develop alternative ways of thinking and responding. All humans have an innate tendency to focus on the negative aspects of themselves and their lives. I will help you to recognise the self-blaming mind and develop insight and strategies to overcome habits of worry, avoidance and rumination.
CBT has been well researched and is advocated to be one of the most effective approaches for treating anxiety and depression. You will learn to understand and then respond in a more helpful manner to your thoughts, habits and behaviours. CBT takes into account how evolution, our upbringing and society shape the belief systems we hold about ourselves, others and the world around us.
A course of CBT can range from 6-20 sessions, I generally see clients for 12 sessions. Your appointments will be 50 minutes long and held at the same time every week.
The first session is an assessment appointment during which you can discuss your difficulties and I will help you set reasonable goals to elicit change in your life. Please feel free to contact me by email and we can also arrange a telephone call to discuss any questions you may have.
